After a trip to Tacheng and Kashgar, I can tell you the truth: there is indeed a huge difference bet
I went to Tacheng and Kashgar. These two cities, located in northern and southern Xinjiang respectively, gave me completely different feelings, which made me say that there are indeed big differences between people in northern Xinjiang and southern Xinjiang.
When I was in Tacheng, I felt the frankness and directness of the people in northern Xinjiang. Life in northern Xinjiang seems to have more modern fast-paced elements. Just like the people I met, their dressing style is more diverse, with both traditional costumes and modern fashion styles. The topics they talk about often involve the outside world, and they have a strong curiosity about emerging things. I found that people in northern Xinjiang are also more active in business activities, perhaps because northern Xinjiang communicates more frequently with the outside world, they are more bold in communication, and their language expression is very straightforward, allowing me, a newcomer, to quickly integrate into their topics.
However, when I arrived in Kashgar, the customs of southern Xinjiang were completely different. The people of southern Xinjiang gave me a more restrained and traditional feeling. In the old city of Kashgar, I saw that the local people adhered to tradition. Their clothes were exquisite and gorgeous, and every pattern and every color seemed to be telling an ancient story. The people of southern Xinjiang were very pious in traditional customs. They were meticulous in worship and inheriting ethnic crafts. Their smiles were also so subtle. When I communicated with them, they always responded with a warm smile first, and then slowly answered my questions. The traditional charm that came from their bones was like the ancient city walls of Kashgar, thick and deep.
But whether it is Northern Xinjiang or Southern Xinjiang, they are all indispensable parts of this magical land of Xinjiang. Their differences are like silk threads of different colors, which together weave a colorful picture of Xinjiang.
