Da Wan News: As the Spring Festival approaches, preparing lucky money has become a "required action" for many citizens, and more and more citizens go to banks to exchange new banknotes. However, recently, many banks in Wuhu have experienced a temporary shortage of new banknotes.

Citizens: I may have to go to several banks to exchange the new banknotes I need

These days, Mr. Wang, who lives in Jinghu District, Wuhu City, is troubled by a small matter. Seeing that the Chinese New Year is approaching, Mr. Wang is going to the bank to exchange new banknotes of all denominations, but the bank always tells him that they are temporarily unavailable. During the Chinese New Year, many relatives and friends come to visit. Using new banknotes as red envelopes and game rewards is not only good-looking but also hygienic. Mr. Wang is a businessman and has several banks in contact, but each bank has a shortage of new banknotes of one or more denominations. Mr. Wang calculated that if he follows his exchange requirements, he may have to go to several banks to exchange new banknotes of all denominations, but the end of the year is approaching and business is busy, so he can't leave for the time being.

On the morning of January 16, Da Wan News reporter went to a bank branch on Changjiang Road, Jinghu District, Wuhu City, where citizens who came to handle business were queuing up. The reporter asked and found that there were indeed several people who came to exchange new banknotes. Ms. Zhang, who was queuing, said: "I wanted to use new banknotes to give my children New Year's money during the Spring Festival, but I didn't expect it to be so difficult to exchange." Bank staff revealed that the number of people who came to exchange new banknotes recently has increased a lot compared to usual, and the new banknotes at the branch were quickly exchanged out as soon as they arrived. "Most of them have made appointments in advance. Except for the new banknotes of 20 yuan and 50 yuan, there are still sufficient new banknotes of other denominations." A customer manager named Wang of the bank told Da Wan News reporter.

Bank: You can make an appointment in advance to exchange new banknotes

Da Wan News reporters then randomly went to several banks in Wuhu city to exchange new banknotes. Several banks said that they did not have new banknotes at the moment, but reservations could be made in advance and they would definitely be exchanged next week.

The reporter learned that the new banknotes are first collected by branches from the People's Bank of China according to the plan, and then distributed to various business outlets. Although banks have increased the reserve of new banknotes in advance based on past experience, it is still difficult to meet the strong demand of citizens, especially the new banknotes of 20 yuan and 50 yuan are in short supply.

"Last December, I was doing financial management at a bank. The financial manager was very considerate and told me that the bank now had new banknotes of various denominations and asked me if I wanted to exchange some for Chinese New Year red envelopes. I was in a hurry to go back at the time, so I said I didn't need them for the time being. I wanted to exchange some new banknotes these days, but when I asked the financial manager again, he said they were out of stock, but he could help me make an appointment." said Ms. Lin, a citizen.

It is reported that in the face of the "emergency" of new banknotes, banks in Wuhu are also taking active measures. Some banks have increased coordination and communication with higher-level departments and cash centers to strive to allocate more new banknote resources. Some bank branches said that if there are many customers exchanging new banknotes, bank branches will consider opening a green channel for new banknote exchange, assigning special personnel to arrange the exchange, reducing customer waiting time, and guiding customers to make appointments through online channels and arrange the exchange time reasonably. At the same time, in the case of a shortage of new banknotes of a certain denomination, bank staff will also explain to the citizens and suggest that citizens can appropriately choose new banknotes of other denominations.
